Pasquotank-Camden Citizen Emergency Response Team (CERT) members are trained in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, disaster medical operations, light search and rescue and team organization so they can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when profession responders are overwhelmed or unable to reach areas isolated by road damage, flooding or other obstruction. They may also be requested to aid emergency responders during times of major emergencies.
CERT members are also trained to assist in recovery efforts. Pasquotank-Camden CERT members have received training to be able to assist at Points of Distribution and to assist with Damage Assessment. CERT members have received training in the Incident Command System so they will be able to operate in conjunction with emergency responders in both the response and recovery operations.
In addition to their initial training and team exercise, Pasquotank-Camden CERT members take part in local emergency exercises so they will be prepared for response and integration with emergency responders. Pasquotank-Camden CERT members also assist with public education in the local area.
